WHO THIS is FOR

Teenagers who have some basic familiarity with their camera and want to go deeper: understanding manual mode, developing an eye, and exploring a wide range of approaches to photography. You don’t need to be advanced. You do need a DSLR or Mirrorless camera and a genuine curiosity to learn. Students must be self-motivated and okay working independently and in a group.

ABOUT THe WORKSHOP

This class is for students who have picked up a camera, gotten curious, and want to know more. The week is designed to move you – wherever it is you’re starting from – towards confidence, intentionality, and a genuine photographic voice.

Each of the first four days follows the same rhythm: mornings in the classroom working through theory, technique, and creative thinking. Then we’ll head out into the world to practice what we learned. We’ll be at the Boulder Main Library for classroom work, and then outside the library for afternoon practice: around Boulder Creek, Pearl Street, and maybe pop over to CU as well.

What you learn in the classroom, you will practice with your camera that same day. The week closes with a full studio lighting session – a taste of a discipline that takes years to master, but one that will sharpen how you think about light in any context, from the studio to the street.

By the end of the week, you’ll be shooting more confidently, thinking differently about light and composition, and you’ll have a clearer sense of what kind of photographer you want to become.
